Qualifications and Training

1992-2019

I have completed a total of eight years of academic and clinical professional training to become a counselling psychologist. The award of my practitioner doctorate in counselling psychology in 2007 from the University of Wolverhampton conferred my ability to practise as a chartered counselling psychologist as authorised by the British Psychological Society (BPS); it also enabled me to be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a practising psychologist.

I achieved an upper second class BSc (Hons) single honours degree in Psychology from the University of Warwick in 1999. My third year dissertation was published in the British Psychological Journal in 2002 and examined how theory of mind and social perspective may deteriorate with ageing.

I then completed my two year post-graduate diploma in eclectic counselling at the University of Birmingham in 2002, studying cognitive behavioural, solution-focused, psychodynamic and humanistic therapeutic approaches.

I also hold a City & Guilds Adult and Further Education Teaching Certificate, gained in 1994, which allows me to lecture in topics of psychological and specialist interest, such as substance misuse and trauma. I have lectured on the undergraduate course in counselling psychology at the University of Wolverhampton.

In 2009 I completed my training in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing) which enabled me as a qualified EMDR practitioner to treat individuals for trauma.

In 2012 I completed my training in the Rewind Technique for trauma. I have also completed Levels 1and 2 training in EMDR for children and adolescents.

On-going Training

As a therapist I pride myself on maintaining continuing professional development by attending workshops, conferences and training to keep up-to-date with changes in therapeutic practices and new developments in the field of psychology.
